Six year old Hadi Abukhadra was not always able to walk. Born with a congenital foot deformity known as Arthrosyposis, Abukadra’s feet faced upwards and his knees bent backwards, preventing mobility. To make matters worse, there was no medical relief in the child’s immediate area. But with the help of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, Abukhadra was able to travel several thousand miles to receive care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in California.

“The first thing he said when they took off the cast was, ‘Thank God,’ and ‘thank you,’ and gave Dr. Rinsky a big hug, and he showed up in a suit wearing a plastic stethoscope because he wants to be Dr. Rinsky” medical coordinator Nuha Shuman said. To ensure that he continues to improve, Abukhadra recieves physical therapy.

Most common injuries

People who are constantly on their feet are prone to a variety of injuries. Therefore, it is important to take part in physical therapy in order to get back on the right track quickly.

What to do when injured

Physical Therapy is an important treatment option that focuses on the affected area, speeding up recovery and the overall healing process.  It is a proven method that has helped millions of people rehabilitate injuries.

During physical therapy you will undergo regimented training to get back into full form. Training is often very difficult, especially at first when the foot feels weak. These are some steps physical therapy often involves:

  1. Basic stretching & twisting exercises – getting the feet’s mobility and flexibility up.
  2. Massaging – the therapist will massage the injured area in order to activate the muscles and relax them.
  3. Strengthening Exercises – this allows the muscles in the affected area to regain their full strength, a vital step towards full recovery.
